The Special Needs Strategy
The Government of Ontario has introduced the Special Needs Strategy to improve the coordination and integration of services for children and youth with special needs and their families.
Update#2 – March 2015
Update #3 – March 2015
Update #4 – April 2015
Update #5 – September 2015
Lanark, Leeds & Grenville is one of 34 service delivery areas in Ontario tasked with developing proposals to support the vision of “An Ontario where children and youth with special needs get the timely and effective services they need to participate fully at home, at school, in the community, and as they prepare to achieve their goals for adulthood.” This task includes developing:
- A proposal that will describe a local process for coordinated service planning for this region; and
- A proposed approach to improve the delivery of rehabilitation services (specifically Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Speech-Language Pathology)
A Proposal Development Table has been formed with representatives from local school boards and service providers, among others, to deliver on the Ontario Government’s request. The goal of the Table is to make the changes that are needed so families can more easily access information and services and successfully navigate through the various services they receive.
To achieve this goal, we need to hear directly from families about their experience with local services and the changes we should consider to make it better. This will be achieved in a variety of ways such as community meetings, focus groups, webinar or teleconferencing as well as surveys.
Lanark, Leeds and Grenville will be using the Lanark Planning Council Lanark Kids and Leeds-Grenville Every Kid in Our Communities (EKIOC) web site to provide regular progress updates and collect feedback from families regarding their opinion and experiences. We will regularly post information seeking questions to help guide the plan development. While we will not be providing a response in this space your input will be collected and reviewed regularly by the planning table. Thank you for your participation.
Lanark Kids will be posting the “questions of the week” to this website and to our social media, soliciting feedback with answers being directed and collected by the EKIOC website
